उत्तर आये है सारे देवगण
बनारस के गंगा घाट पर
रात है पूर्णिमा की
पर आज चांद भी उतर आया है लजा कर
छिपा है कहीं दीयों के रोशनी के कोने में
उसे आज अपनी रोशनी व चमक फीकी लग रही
घाट पर झिलमिलाते दीपों की कतारों से
केवल देवता ही नही, असुर गंधर्व,ऋषि भी
देख देख के प्रमुदित हो रहे चमकते प्रकाश को
कही उलाहना भी है उनके मन में चांद के प्रति
और कही प्रताड़ना भी चांद से
देखो आज बनारस के घाटों पर कितने चांद उतरे है
तुम्हे भ्रम है कि तुम अकेले रोशनी बिखेरते हो
पर निर्विकार बैठे है काशी पुराधिपति शिव
अपने विश्वनाथ धाम में
हमेशा की तरह सुख दुख पाप पुण्य से परे
अपने नन्दी के साथ अलमस्त, निर्विचार
उनके लिये जैसे त्रिपुरासुर का वध
सामान्य सी घटना हो
और अपने पुराधिपति पार्वतेपति
शंकर की तरह अलमस्त निर्विकार भाव से
देव दीपावली के दिये जला रहा काशी
आदि केशव से अरसी तलक
अपने उल्लास से.......

All the gods have descended,
Upon the steps of the Ganga ghats in Banaras.
It is the night of the full moon,
Yet even the moon has come down today, struck with shyness,
Hiding somewhere in a quiet corner of the lamplight—
Feeling its own glow and brilliance pale
Before the rows of shimmering earthen lamps lining the ghats.

Not just the gods, but demons, celestial musicians, and sages too
Watch with pure delight, mesmerized by this blazing light.
In their hearts, there is a gentle teasing of the moon,
And a playful rebuke as they whisper to it:
"Look, how many moons have descended upon the ghats of Banaras today!
You lived under the illusion that you alone scatter light across the dark."

Yet, sitting completely detached is Shiva, the ultimate lord of Kashi,
Enshrined within his Vishwanath Dham.
As always, he exists far beyond joy and sorrow, sin and virtue,
Lost in his own bliss alongside Nandi—utterly carefree and thoughtless,
As though the slaying of Demon Tripurasur
Were just another ordinary event.

Of its sovereign lord, the consort of Parvati—
Kashi continues to light the lamps of Dev Deepawali,
Stretching all the way from Adi Keshav to the shores of Assi,
Overflowing with its own eternal ecstasy...
